After hiking in Mariposa Grove and eating something for lunch we headed for Glacier Point where the lookout towers over 3,000 feet above the valley floor.
The road from Wawona (where we left the car to hike Mariposa Grove) to Glacier Point road is very curvy. Along the way we stopped at a couple of viewpoints which gives us a glimpse of the areas size.
Reaching the parking lot, we make the short hike to several overlooks. The views are simply magnificent. Here we can clearly see the size of Half Dome and the sheer cliff facing the valley.
Our intent tomorrow is to hike to Vernal and Nevada Falls. From Glacier point we can see that there is little water at Nevada Falls.
And although it appears that Vernal Falls has more water than Nevada Falls, we probably will not make the 2-mile hike to the falls for so little water.
More views of Yosemite looking East into the wilderness area. In order to hike or camp in the wilderness area one must get permits and the park only allows about 20 or so permits a day.
A classic view looking up Yosemite Valley and Tenaya creek with Half Dome on the right side.
Looking over Yosemite National Park towards the East. You can see Nevada Falls to the right near the tree. Between Nevada Falls and the back side of Half Dome (in the upper left) and further behind Half Dome is where the Yosemite fire is located. We expected to see smoke and fire from this vantage point, but we saw no evidence of the fire, a good thing as far as I'm concerned.
Just to let you know, I somehow lost all of the pictures I took with my camera at Glacier Point, so all of the pictures in this post of Glacier point are Carmen's.
